179 Richard Bowdler-Sharpe (1847–1909) – White Stork – Chromolithograph

This vibrantly colored chromolithograph depicts a White Stork (Ciconia ciconia). The main stork is prominently featured standing in tall grasses near water, showcasing its distinctive white plumage with black flight feathers, long red legs, and a pointed red beak. A smaller, younger stork, is visible in the lower left, blending into the vegetation. The naturalistic setting and the detailed rendering of the birds and their environment are characteristic of late 19th-century ornithological illustrations. The print originates from a significant natural history publication, consistent with work "Familiar Wild Birds" by W. Swaysland, which features scientific notes by Richard Bowdler-Sharpe.
